I was reminded yesterday of the incredible opportunity I have each day to build my wife and son up with the words I use. It is so easy to destroy people with your words, to criticize them, to make sarcastic remarks and the like. I need to build people up.

Learn to appreciate

Sometimes it’s hard for me to appreciate what others do for me. It truly is alot and very well intentioned. I just get caught up in a different picture of it all. So I have to change some how. I need to have a different attitude, a change of heart. I need to learn to appreciate!

End

I saw the end of a man’s life today and in that end I saw the incredible impact this man had on many people’s lives as they lined up to say their thank yous and their goodbyes. Its unimaginable how many people he impacted. I think what I saw was just a small sampling of people. He gave up much of his life to serve others and in that serving he found life. It’s quite ironic that you gives up his life and he truly finds out what it means to really live. He lived. He did go.

Friend

Got to hang out with a friend tonight and we talked about what our futures might hold well mostly his future. He wants to help people and wonders if he can make it a career. I don’t know about a career but he can it a lifestyle. it was a great conversation.

Stirring

Something is stirring. Over the last couple of days/week it seems there is something bigger than me is brewing. I’m not sure what it is yet. I find myself looking and reading of where something is needed. I wanna do something that encompasses my wife and my son. I want something that will help others. I want something that will give back what I have been giving. I have but I don’t feel alive till I give!!!

Choices and Events

So what really defines the direction of our life? Is it the Events or is it the Choices. It always seems to point to the events. Is that because they are bigger and richer. They are also many times few and far between. This makes them more memorable and we can usually tag this time and see a possible change in something. Many times these changes are reactions to the events. It seems the course of our life is reactive instead of proactive. If we make the choices what defines our life than we become proactive. The events then become something that can solidify our choices and give us a concrete tag to our life.

nOISE definition

So we talked about nOISE the affects and where it comes from and what to do but nOISE was never defined directly. We can give an abstract definition of it say “something that is within your sphere but is unwanted” but it’s really hard to give examples. nOISE is relative. It truly is in the ear and eye of the beholder. So how would you define nOISE?

When we hear the word nOISE we associate it with what comes in our ears. Audible nOISE is what most complain about right? Our ears are something we just can’t close up or stop. They are one of our senses that’s just always on. So when we hear the word nOISE we automatically goto the ears instead of our other senses but visual noise is just as big. Yes we can shut our eyes making the nOISE just a little less pervavise but it is all around us. Much of what we take in with our eyes is nOISE. And many we don’t think as much but the visual nOISE is so much stronger. Maybe watch TV tonight and see how much of it is nOISE or when driving home tonight what you see how much of it is nOISE. I’ll be a lot more than you realize.

Caught

Isn’t it easy to get caught? No matter how hard to try, no matter how you set things up it’s so easy to get caught. It takes a lot of energy and concentration not too.
I got caught in the nOISE.

Listening in the nOISE

We can’t spend our lives in solitude or in silence. Some do but I don’t chose to do that with my life and others do agree with me.
So what can we do in the nOISE? We need to listen? Listen for the Voice. Listen to the hearts around us. We spend lots of time hearing the people around us and at times maybe even listening but if we don’t actively listen it all becomes nOISE. Actively listening is engaging in the coversation. Taking to heart what the other is saying. Feeling yourself in their place. It is first silence on our part. Silence in both word and thought. Then it is the step of understanding and asking as a participant in the coversation.
If we can actively listen then we’re tuning out the nOISE.
